This project will address the various technical challenges from various angles and gather the different perspective and knowledge on this complex topic. The project will take advantage of the participant’s wide application knowledge and experience related to developing sensor technology for the ocean environment. 

The following project partners are involved per today: AADI (Industrial partner), CMR Instrumentation (Coordinator), UiB-GFI and UiB-BIO.

The first phase of this project will be conducted in 2007 and compare the various monitoring techniques for CO2 measurement in water. The study will focus on identifying promising approaches for in-situ measurement of dissolved CO2 in water. This is currently not been achieved reliable and to the desired accuracy level.
 
This project will be multidisciplinary covering a wide range of measurement methods in addition to having a generic approach with multiple application areas covering all SFI focus area; environment, fishery/aquaculture and oil & gas. The targeted main application will be measuring the global physical and biological exchange of CO2 between the atmosphere and the ocean, but monitoring and validation of geological storage of CO2 and aquaculture are potential applications areas as well.

Critical factors include; measurement accuracy, reduction of systematic errors, operational costs, reliability, robustness and traceability, with significant economic consequences for users and society.  The purpose is among others to close technology gaps faced by the industry, and to develop innovative solutions (new measurement technologies and new applications), based on existing technologies of the centre partners, in combination with new methods and principles identified and developed during the work.CO2 sensor in water.
