A well-organised centre for 2015

Shaping the vision for 2015

The Michelsen Centre started in August 2011 a strategy process to explore the possibilities and to prepare the future in 2015 when the official period as a Centre of Research-based Innovation will end.

It is a prioritised goal to be able to exploit the innovation network built as a vital part of the Michelsen Centre also in 2015 and beyond. The Centre has accumulated both knowledge, relations, and an innovation culture that the partners will continue to profit from as a part of the continuous efforts to improve the links between science and industry.

The work is based on input from the international expert panel that evaluated the Michelsen Centre in 2010 when the Research Council of Norway conducted an extensive mid-life evaluation of Norway's 14 Centres of Research-based Innovation (CRIs). We cite the evaluation report concerning the Michelsen Centre (MIMT):

"MIMT builds on the strong and well-renowned research in measurement science and technology at CMR and UiB and initially set up a research program with projects that were strongly application-oriented and engaged industries with long-standing relationships with the host institutions. During its third year the Centre research program was re-organised to reflect the main research areas with reference groups for each area and a stronger emphasis on generic research projects. In all, MIMT has become a well-organised Centre with great potential to produce results that give rise to industrial innovations."

The outcome of the Centre's mid-life evaluation secures RCN funding also for the last 3 years of the in total maximum 5+3 years such funding can be granted (April 16, 2007 - April 15, 2015).

The Board and Centre management have prepared an action plan for the period 2011-2015 which includes plans for how to develop the innovation network also after the in total 8 years of RCN funding will end in 2015.
